Gone But Not Forgotten: Angel in Buffy Episode "Becoming: Part 2"

The season two finale of Buffy the Vampire Slayer was INsane.

It was one of those episodes that caused abject frustration; fists pounding on carpet, they did NOT just do that sort of stuff.

Buffy and Angel (Angelus really) finally had their no holds barred, drag out, knock down fight. And Angel is basically smirk central the whole time, simultaneously showing off his superior fencing skills.

All while Willow works tirelessly from her hospital bed to restore Angel his soul. Then, at the last possible second, BOOM SOUL RESTORATION (And yeah - I have dibs on Boom Soul Restoration for my totally happening band.)

After many long hours of Angelus torture, homeboy is gonesville! Rejoice! Angel has returned. Unfortunately, Angel and Buffy have roughly 90 seconds of happy hugs and kisses before...

Buffy plunges her sword into Angel's gut, thus sending him to hell. Looks like Angel is the one who gets screwed this time. Major bummer. Angel's got a rough summer ahead of him. When he comes back, he's basically feral and of course it's totally angsty and sexy.

Also - it was one of the poorest attempts at hiding the stunt people ever. I mean - the shot goes wide and suddenly it's like who ARE those people? They certainly aren't Buffy or Angel... But perhaps they weren't anticipating the phenomenon of the pause button way back in 1998...

  1. I go on about it with my friends, but really, THIS is how you do vampires. They do not sparkle and you kill them when they go evil and threaten the world.

  2. Really, first off, I just want to say, there is absolutely nothing, repeat nothing, that we can do to get this show back. Not on TV. Not a movie. Not a freaking MMO. There is nothing more we can squeeze from this, seemingly no matter what Joss teases, but a comic book (which I had to cancel because I am flat-broke, DAMMIT) and I am SO UNHAPPY that no matter the huge amounts of whining and crying and posting and ranting the BTVS geek community does or has done or will do, will accomplish *anything at all* to further the Buffy-verse, and I HATE that. SIGH. >< Nothing has compared to it. Nothing. Now. *Brisk inhale & exhale*
    Onto the matter at hand.
The whole Angel taunting Spike about his time with Dru, very enjoyable. Love Angel, Love Spike, and their Bromance-Gone-Putrid makes me so very happy. Most of their interactions are jolly with the jabbings. Heh!
A lot of these eps during this Evil Angel Phase were fun, and very torturous. For us. And Buffy. lol
I do have to comment on the whole talent of the Divinely Devilish Drusilla to get into the head of Giles, as he was being tortured. I think Anthony Stewart Head is a great actor. It was so moving, watching him suffer about the irritating (sorry, team Jenny) Jenny Calendar, it brought a tear to my eye (as I recall). It was rough, and very unfair. Vampires are *evil*. Also, if Not-Jenny's eye's jumped around a little bit more, I was going to smack them with a rolled up paper. Jenny drove me nuts! X-D She was so rude to Giles.
When Buffy had to skewer ANgel like a shrimp on the barbie, it was utterly torture to have him look at her - with such relieved, pure, teary happiness in his eyes - as she drove her Acathla-point home. So sad. I really intensely hated that moment; it was so beautiful, and so painful. Good job on both actors for wringing it out of me. Waaa-aaaah-ahhhh! I love/hate you Joss Whedon!! Until next time, dear Styx, Peace :-) and hot boys lol <3
