The Secret Circle: Jake Should Always Be Cursed

I missed chatting about the last couple Secret Circles thanks to Game of Thrones madness but I think I've enjoyed the past few episodes more than any others. I'm going to go back two SCs to the episode where Cassie and Adam almost sexed Jake to death.

First of all, any episode where a relatively attractive male character is sick is okay by me. Jake should always be feverish and hallucinating. He's so much more likable when he's got something to do other than worry about protecting Cassie.

Cassie still sucks. She's still whinny and bratty. And there wasn't nearly enough guilt for the whole her sexin' might kill Jake. She actually said the words, "let it go" to him. Let it go!? LET IT GO? I'm dying because you screwed emo-boy. DY-ING. As in will soon be dead permanent-like. And I'm supposed to let it go!? Yeah... that line bugged me.

Apart from enjoying Jake's suffering, there was actually a plotline that ran the length of the episode. It had a beginning, middle, and end. And it wasn't an external evil riding in to town, going after Cassie, and then being defeated by some combination of the circle chanting nonsensical stuff.

Sick Jake is also sort of funny with his sass hands...

What would have been nice is if Cassie had shown some compassion or remorse. But she's a cold-hearted wench who was sooo put-upon in searching for the magical root of survival. Truth be told, the sweetest relationship moment of the episode was between Jake and Cassie's dad.

John Blackwell asked Jake if he thought he was worth the sacrifice of Adam and Cassie's relationship. And Jake said flat out, no. He wasn't worth it. Jake feels guilty and he's full of self loathing. Those things are THE BEST.

John assures Jake that people can change. It's a sweet moment. It made both of them feel more human than pretty much anyone on the show had up to that point.

Anyway - the show has been slightly better these past few weeks. I especially dug the reveal that John Blackwell was behind the ruse to end Cassie and Adam. AND Diana's "It's always about Cassie" moment last week. Because yes - it IS always about Cassie. Hopefully now that they've pointed out that little irksome trait, they'll fix it.

I still can't believe Cassie says to Jake, "let it go." What a bitch.
