Game of Thrones Season Two Finale: Tyrion and Shae for the WIN

I'll admit, I was a little underwhelmed by the Game of Thrones Season Two finale. Last week's episode, Blackwater, was just SO good, there was really no way to live up to it. Part of that is because Blackwater was the first time the show focused on one location and one overarching storyline. The finale had to catch us up with our dozen or so other leads, so basically it felt like a giant denouement. That's not to say it was bad, it just didn't reach the awesome heights of awesomeness of the week before. However, there was one scene I particularly loved: the amazingness between Tyrion and Shae.

I know I'm not alone in my love for Tyrion. I definitely think he's the best character on the show and the only one I've never wanted to throw rocks at. He's just so smart and so clever and so deserving of a throne and SO not getting one any time soon.

His relationship with Shae is the best romance on the show.  At this point, it's one of the only romances on the show, but it's also one of very few genuine relationships. He cares for her and she for him. Keeping her safe is of the utmost importance to him. And their scene together in the finale was the best scene of the night.

After the battle of last week, Tyrion has pretty much lost everything. Which BLOWS because he's the one that rallied the townsfolk to defend Kings Landing. He learns that it was Cersei who nearly caused his death on the battlefield, and now that the fighting is over, his father has taken his place as Hand of the King. His life is in danger, he's injured, and he's alone. Except! For Shae. Aww.

She comes to visit and it's just a whole heap of adorable angst. He doesn't want her to see his freshly scared face.  He's sad and embarrassed so he pretends that her reaction to his newly slashed self doesn't matter to him, but it really really does.

"I'm a monster as well as a dwarf. You should charge me double." And... ouch. Do they have to use dirty rags for bandages? Can they not find nice, clean, sterile looking rags?

Her biting response of, "Fuck your money" is perfect. He loves her for her backbone as well as for her...other bones. She suggests they run off together. But you can't escape the game of thrones. Especially if your entire identity is wrapped up in the fact that you know how to play.

Tyrion says he can't go. And then he asks Shae if she intends to leave him.

And when she says no, he breaks down. "I am yours and you are mine." Finally finally they embrace. Hugs and comfort, man. This is the couple I'm most invested in and if either of them dies and/or betrays the other, I'll write an angry letter to H.R.H. George R.R. Martin. Or, you know, an angry blogpost. Because that's how I do.

Shae and Tyrion are actually decent human beings and I wish happiness for them both. I can't believe it's another year before Game of Thrones comes back. Damn you HBO for your 10 episodes seasons!
