The Newsroom: The Merry Mixup of Maggie and Jim

This past week, there were quite a few adorable Jim and Maggie banter scenes. And in zero of those scenes, did Maggie yell at Jim about Lisa. Yay! Progress.

Things get going when Jim gives Maggie the silent nod of secret encouragement, urging her to tell the newsroom that Lisa is the perfect "get" for the show. Once the cat's out of the bag, Jim sticks with Maggie to help her convince Lisa to whore herself out in the most classy way possible.

What followed was my personal favorite scene of the night. John Gallagher Jr. was given ALL the funny. While trying to convince rich-Tony-bitch that she should buy a damn dress already, he says, "That's how good the dress is. You wear that dress and they'll just start throwing Tony Awards at your head. You, I promise, will have skull contusions if you wear that dress to The Tonys. I'd be terrible at this job."

John Gallagher Jr. has a Tony. He should have thrown it at her head. That'd have been funny too.

Then he says if crazy-lady takes the dress, it's on him. Lisa mentions the dress costs $11,000.

FOR A DRESS?! Love.

Then he asks Maggie, "Do you think they're kissing in there?" He goes on to say he doesn't understand gay men and straight women. I'm with him but the opposite way around. How are there people out there who wouldn't want to date this guy!?

They haul Lisa into the newsroom where she makes a royal mess of things. Jim and Maggie hang out looking like cool,  casual, producers. Like, yeah... I'm producing the news. You got something to say?

Then there's a nice little moment where Mackenzie tells Jim to go out and catch a husband while he's still a beautiful virgin or it'll be too late and he'll end up an old unmarried hag with no man to take care of him. So he zooms over to Maggie and Lisa's house to sweep Maggie off her feet. Oh the irony of it all! Moments before he gets there, Maggie talks Lisa into accepting Jim's date offer. And of course - Don is there mucking up the whole proceedings. I have to say, when the episode started, I was happy Lisa hadn't immediately acquiesced to Jim's proposal. Because that makes sense. But it's a bummer she eventually does especially because Maggie is such a terrible liar and Lisa should just stick to her Maggie-likes-Jim guns.

I mean look at this vvv I want to give Maggie the gift of a pokerface. Luckily, Don rightly intuits that Jim wasn't there to see Lisa. AND he confesses that he's been hooking up with chicks who send dudes flowers. Does that happen in reality? Any of you ladies out there ever send flowers to a guy at work? Or know a guy who got flowers? Because I certainly haven't and don't. But whatevs. I guess it would have been weirder if she sent golf clubs or something.

Hopefully they untangle this woeful web next week. I sort of hate stupid mixups like this. And Jim shouldn't date Lisa just because she misunderstood his intent. And Maggie shouldn't date Don because HE'S NOT INTERESTED IN HER. There are internet people out there shipping Don and Sloan. I'm fine with that. Let's do that. Don and Sloan forever!!

  1. This show is like MSNBC: Turning me into a conservative right wing Republican. The "liberals" come off so arrogant, stupid, antipathetic and intolerant on this show. I don't want to be on their team.
